The 24th Annual Golden Hangers Benefiting Make A Wish Kids in San Diego! 'It's Fashionable to be Philanthropic!' (Page 1 of 2) .......Page 2
The 24th Annual Golden Hangers took place November 13th, 2010 at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center. Fashion Careers College Founder and CEO Pat O'Connor, and once again this year's Chair, and she did so beautifully! As always it was a fun filled, and very, very fashionable crowd in attendance. The evening has 3 main ingredients, all for the benefit of Make-A-Wish kids in San Diego. First a few prominent San Diegans were honored. They are Victoria Hamilton, she's the Executive Director for the City of San Diego Commission for Arts & Culture, Phyllis Parrish, Judy Smith, she's done many wonderful events including the San Diego Historical Society's one night display of locals favorite outfit, Bridgepoint Education, and California Marine.
Pat O'Connor with Margo Schwab The second element was local celebrities modeling with very special Make A Wish kids. Miss Greater San Diego 2010 Ashley Alcala was paired with her Wish Kids, Sandra Maas walked with hers (for the 14th year!), Jesus Estrada, FCC and Project Runway Star participated as did Alexandra Rosa of Art ROCKS 24/ 7, and so did THE SOCIAL DIARY MAGAZINE'S Margo Schwab and Kima, who is also the Arthritis Dog Honoree and Service Dog. Kima and I were very lucky to be paired with two very special Wish Kids, Sidney Hagwood and Wesley Overton. The children did a terrific job modeling the runway and Wesley did a super job walking Kima! And we did it in style thanks to a very talented and humble designer, Heather Panetti, a FCC Graduate. "I was honored to be invited back to participate in the Make-A-Wish segment of Golden Hangers. I couldn't have asked for a better group to work with. A big thanks to Margo, Sidney & Wesley. My mini line was colorful, fun & edgy, I call it; Cotton Candy Coated Metal." By the way Heather and her husband Chris Panetti moved here from Maine 6 years ago for his Naval career and for Heather's dreams of being a designer. Since graduating from FCC, Heather has worked as an Assistant Designer for Disguise, one of the leading Halloween costume company's in the world!" "I just want to design, that's all I've ever wanted" added Heather. Heather's enthusiasm and exceptional talent was joined by other talented designers for this year's Golden Hangers. Very creatively too as such for the 3rd segment, which incorporated this year's 'Art of Fashion' collection. This new 'it' aka must see exhibit each August matches designers with famous paintings at the Timken Museum of Art. The designer then interprets the painting in couture designs which are then modeled 'en tableau.' Again the idea of FCC's Pat O' Connor in conjunction with John Wilson, Director of the Timken Museum. Among the designers for the evening were Sharlene Borromeo, Hellen Magni Nitschke, Paula Cobian, Alyssa mansfield, Suzanne Lemasters, Selena Pribyl, Andrea Burke, Tony Gysi, Heather Panetti, Kassaye Bekele, Jeffrey Parish, Prince Charming (yes that's his real name!), and Jesus Estrada. As Lisa Paik Whelian stated to The Social Diary Magazine, "we hope the event will grant numerous wishes to deserving children of this very worthy charitable organization." .... Good news it did. Among the Honorary Committee for the Golden Hangers were: Tamara Strauss, Toni Bloomberg, Tanya Brandes, Barbara Zobell, Nanci Washburn, Zandra Rhodes, Jordan, Judy Smith, Ann Jones, Lael Kovtun, Sally Lawrence, Lynelle Lynch, Peggy Matthews, Jim Crawford, Darlene Davies, Phyllis Van Doren, Suzanne Figi, and Valerie Cooper. Bravo to Pat O'Connor, Tanya McAnear, FCC, and all of those terrific designers and very special Make-A-Wish kids of San Diego!
