Zandra Rhodes Couture designs are the ultimate of colorful, whimsical, and fun to wear. And model too!
So when I was asked to model for the 10th Annual Zandra Rhodes Fashion luncheon at the Westgate Hotel, it was an easy yes. And for a good cause too. The show benefits education and scholarships at Zandra Rhode's Fashion and Textile Museum in London. Far away cause, maybe. But quite a few aspiring American design talents have procured and benefited from learning there.
So off to hair and makeup. Vicky LeVanty and Robert did my hair as usual, but not the usual way. This year it was the bubble head look. Or as Anita Bye kindly said, I looked like Cindy Loo Who from Dr. Seuss. You know, I did.
So, along with other media/ celebish models, I paraded, had a great time, and managed once again to not trip.
The buzz of the day belonged to pretty new face Aleksandra Vasic. At fourteen year's old, Aleksandra had just returned from being the youngest on the catwalk for London's fashion week. For Zandra's show naturally.
With the latest model restrictions coming about, Aleksandra may have to wait until she is 16 to model the European catwalks again... but it will be worth the wait. San Diegan raised, with a heritage that includes a Yugoslav / Latina bloodline, Aleksandra is a blossoming beauty. And she will take her life's direction where she will. She always has her pretty mother Alma's empire to fall back on. Alma is the owner of F Street Book Stores, a prosperous retail chain of adult reading and such.
But right now, with all her young fame, Aleksandra, and us other models, albeit quite a bit older, had a fun day together modeling couture and nibbling on a superb Westgate light lunch of chicken breast and salad with fruit pudding dessert.
And among the well dressed Zandra fashionistas there were Sheri Jamieson, Lori DeMaria, Jeanne Jones, Kathryn Fishbeck, Jim Crawford, and Pat O'Conner. Pat is President of Fashion Career College or FCC. She is also the one who was instrumental in connecting Aleksandra with Zandra. Voila, a career is born!
