FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Germaine Auxiliary to the San
Diego County Child Abuse Prevention Foundation becomes St. Germaine's
Children's Charity
On July 11, 2006, the members of St. Germaine
Auxiliary voted unanimously to leave the umbrella of CAPF and
form its own nonprofit corporation. St. Germaine Children's Charity
is now officially a California nonprofit public benefit corporation.
Though the name is new, the mission remains
unchanged: "Working to Stop Child Abuse." Membership
dues provide the operating funds so that 100% of all donations
and fundraising revenues go directly to those agencies which provide
child abuse prevention programs.
St. Germaine sponsors social service agencies
responsible for the care, shelter, and treatment of abused and
at-risk children from birth to age 18. In addition to annual monetary
awards to support program services, we provide clothing, equipment,
toys, school supplies, household items, and volunteer time through
our approximately 300 members and various community partners.
Fundraising events, such as the upcoming
23rd annual Silver Tea on December 5, membership dues, cash and
in-kind donations support the programs. Every contribution is
welcomed, appreciated and makes a difference. Since its founding
in 1984, St. Germaine has awarded nearly $2,000,000 in cash and
an estimated $1,000,000 of in-kind donations to the San Diego
community. Members have also contributed countless hours of individual
volunteer time.
Child abuse affects each of us either directly
or indirectly. In 2005, more than 75,000 cases of suspected child
abuse and neglect were investigated by San Diego Child Protective
Services. Our community experiences the emotional and economic
impact through displaced families, increased medical costs, rising
prison populations, and unfilled potential. Your support is a
vital component if we are to reach our goal of improving the future
of our children.
St. Germaine Children's Charity is coordinating
educational programs about the agencies they sponsor with their
"Coffee and Conversation" meetings throughout the coming
year.
These meetings provide the membership with an opportunity to meet
as well as to inform them as to where their funds are allocated.
The first "Coffee and Conversation" will be held on
Tuesday, September 12, and will feature Angels Foster Family Agency.
"Coffee and Conversation" meetings
are open to members, prospective members and those interested
in supporting St. Germaine Children's Charity. The fee is $5.00
per person. For more information, please call Sally Irwin at (858)
459-9432.
