The Brandes Halloween Ball....

A Night in 'The Dark Forest' of Tanya and Charles Brandes

'Crafted for the Most Daring Souls'

Long fingers of fog crept in with the night October 30th to the moonlit grounds of the Brandes estate. As the clock struck 7, guests began arriving for an evening promising the darkest heart of the Brothers Grimm Fantasy, an evening where 'innocence is seduced by evil,' and happily ever after is, well, just a fabled fairy tale.

A headless horseman on a magnificent  black maned Freesian horse circled arriving 'carriages.' The long twisting drive revealed others who had come to a 'grim' end, swinging hauntingly from mossy trees.

High atop the hill, fallen angels stood silently as guests disembarked ... Cinderella's beautiful gilt carriage stood empty in a pumpkin patch. Creatures stirred in The Dark Forest during cocktails, taunting Halloween guests.

Amidst the forest sprites and ghouls mingled daring 'souls.' Harry and Valerie Cooper came as seductive creatures of the forest, Deni and Jeff Jacobs were the very Icy Queen and King, Vince Heald was decidedly 'Evil' from the Forest. Bonnie Saldivar-Jones was sexily 'bewitching,' David Copley channeled an elegant ‘Beast,' Andrew Shelton was the Frog that's kissed and turns into a Prince, and Russian twins Oksana Davis and Marina Phillips came as enchanting Nymphs of the River and the Sea.

Cocktails were sipped as forest bites named aptly The Fairest of Them All, Sleep My Beauty Sleep, and White as Snow, Dark As My Heart were offered.

As ancestors buried nearby in the cemetery stirred, a feathered 'bird' contorted in her cage, forest creatures fought over bone scraps, and creepy twin girls greeted guests in unison, word for word, and then disappeared with eery giggles. They were evil from birth.

A lone Ghost Nymph walked hauntingly among The Dark Forest guests.

The mammothly tall Cloaked Man tried to warn guests to take a talsiman to protect themselves... for he knew what evil lay ahead...

Forewarned guests received one last warning by the 'Troll' on the far side of the bridge....

The Beautifully 'Wicked' Little Red Riding Hood & the Handsome Werewolf

Clues were there. Charles Brandes was dressed as a gentleman. But the telltale signs of excessive hair on his face and hands, the very long claws, and his red tinged eyes told the truth that on this night..... Charles was indeed a Werewolf. Tanya Brandes was the very beautiful and innocent 'Little Red Riding Hood. Or was she innocent..... the hatchet she carried was bloodied, her basket full of animal tails.

This was a 'tale'  2 years in the making, with a solid crew of artistic production that started with 'cryptic' notes, and was detailed to the smallest nuance. As Artistic Director, Tanya Brandes had planned this Halloween Ball to be full of 'Grimm' twists, a hauntingly extraordinary and world class production to seduce and intoxicate guests' artistic senses.

No one could imagine what lay ahead…….
