Globe Gala 2010
(followed by The Buzz!!)
"Our 75th anniversary gala was an incredible success thanks to this extraordinary community. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the nation’s sixth largest theater and a milestone birthday than a great show in the broadway bound ROBIN AND THE SEVEN HOODS, unprecedented amount of money raised, and a collection of beautiful and generous San Diegans!" - Lou Spisto, Old Globe Theatre CEO / Executive Producer
The Globe Theatre has produced incredible productions for 75 years, had the unparalleled guidance of Craig Noel, the thrill of being the birthplace of so many Broadway bound plays, incredible ongoing support from actors Marion Ross and Paul Michael, current (and hopefully for a very, very longtime) the brilliance of Lou Spisto the Globe's CEO and Executive Producer's expertise, and then the support of so many San Diegans.
That's big support! Karen and Don Cohn, Debbie Turner and Conrad Prebys, Sheryl and Harvey White, Kathy and John Hattox, David C. Copley, Audrey Geisel, the Jacobses including Debby and Hal Jacobs, Deni and Jeff Jacobs, and of course Joan and Irwin Jacobs, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Hanna and Mark Gleiberman, Renee Schatz Mary Beth Adderley, Laurie Mitchell and Brent Woods, and the amazing Donald and Darlene Shiley are some of the incredibly generous Globe supporters.
On a sad note, Darlene Shiley was unable to attend as her husband Donald passed the day of the gala. But a message was relayed that she wanted everyone to be in good spirits, and bid big on auction items. Of course Darlene added quite a significant donation to that kettle.
Among the live auction items was an evening performance by the wonderful Hershey Felder for 50 guests at the Hyatt La Jolla. Hershey was such a sport he rang in to rally people for the auction bidding ..... and it was 4 am Paris time! Hershey's auction item went for big, big money. So did an auction prize for a U2 concert in Rome, Italy with backstage passes... Sheryl and Harvey White will be enjoying that one!
And so it was a was that an incredible $1 million plus was raised for the Globe's education and outreach programs.
And guests had a great time while supporting a great cause.
"The evening was so beautiful, and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time," said Iris Strauss. "There couldn't have been a prettier night for a gala. I especially enjoyed the show, the dancing was fabulous. The decor afterwards was gorgeous and romantic. Bravo to the Globe and to the chairladies for a great glorious evening."
Sheryl White added this. " Harvey and I had a great time! We’re just getting up and it’s almost 10:30! That never happens! The band was great so we just kept dancing! I’m also looking forward to the item we won in the live auction going to Rome in October to see U2!! Woo-Woo! Karen, Deni, Debbie, Valerie and Sandy did an awesome job!"
Sandy Redman agreed. "A Night to Remember, production a show stopper, getting my wardrobe ready for another trip to Broadway with this show. Raising over $1 Million was the best gift the Co Chairs could receive, we are so thrilled to have so much support our efforts for to provide Theater and the Arts, to the community and more specifically, the youth of San Diego."
Guests stayed late until 1 and a bit... all went home with great gifts from sponsoring Neiman Marcus....fun!
