Steve, Sally and John Thornton
Steve, Sally and John Thornton absolutely put on the best New Year's Day splash each year at their La Jolla hilltop estate. With commanding views, award winning Cafe Champagne cuisine and Thornton Winery finessed grapes ... how could the party get better? Well, in addition to the fine folk invited, a four legged who's who crowd was made welcome too!
The Thornton's dog Dude greeted each tail wagging guest. There were teacup chihuahuas, rescue dogs, and one happy boxer. The Social Diary's Kima the Canine Connoisseur thought the whole party was top dog!
Among the couture clad people there were Doreen and Dr. Shonbrun with their puppy Lilly, Marie and George aka "Buzz" Burnett, the "Halerie's," Valerie and Harry Cooper, Dianne York-Goldman and Dr. Mitchel P. Goldman, Sook and Ron Hansen, Fred Applegate with his teacup chihuahua, Kathy West, Phyliss and John Parrish, Margo Schwab and Scott Johnston with Kima the Canine Connoisseur, Elizabeth and William Zongker, Ed Mracek and Lily Zhou, Vivian and Sam Hardage, Sharon and Sami Ladeki, Kristi Pieper, Lori De Maria, Ofelia and Dr. John Alksne, and Christopher with "Style Guy" Leonard Simpson. Leonard wore a fabulous knit sweater from Ralph Lauren Polo.
Hostess Sally Thornton had on dislplay her prized Gingerbread "castle." The incredible edible is from the Gingerbread City 2006 event she chaired for the Epilepsy Foundation.
Sally reflected back on that gala.
"The exciting, "Gingerbread City 2006" is an incredible, unprecedented success! Exquisite and delicate gingerbread creations are carefully designed, and lovingly constructed to enthrall and enchant you. The larger structures are intricate, and exquisitely detailed. They are a,
"Wanna See!" "Gotta See!" "WILL SEE!"
Thoughtful, kind and caring, Chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, Daniel J. Tucker and the Sycuan Tribe, have every reason to be exceedingly proud of the magnificent renovation of the renowned and historically significant, U.S. Grant Hotel . The "Grant" is stunning, and the perfect setting for "Gingerbread City 2006," which provides significant outreach to those who are affected by Epilepsy."
Only Sally and great Presidents have quotes like that!
Guests were kindly reminded to have some black eyed peas for good luck as the New Year 2007 was ushered in with cheers. Thornton Winery cheers that is!
Happy, Healthy New Year!
