Subject: Pets in Need of Emergency Housing after Death
of Local Animal Welfare Director
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 13, 2006
Contact: Angela Doss at 619-212-6028.
Last
night, the Director of San Diego Pet Rescue (www.sdpetrescue.org),
Gina Gracio, was killed in a head-on collision. This
is a link to an article related to the accident: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/northcounty/20060113-9999-6m13wreck.html.
Although her name is not mentioned, she is the driver who died
in the SUV fire.
There are a million wonderful things I can say about all
the work Gina does to save animals, but Gina is a no-nonsense
person, and I know the first thing she'd want is for us to focus
on what to do with the animals. Gina has left behind more
than a dozen fostered cats, and at least 7 dogs, who will all
need immediate housing. Local animal welfare group directors,
Mary Kay Gagliardo and Angela Doss, are currently working with
Gina's family to organize this effort as best they can on such
short notice. They are desperately in need of foster homes and
adopters for these animals. For more information about the animals,
please contact Angela at the number above.
I have taken Gina's pets on television for years now, and the
most special thing about Gina is that she would take animals in
that nobody else would help. She didn't care about legal rules
and regulations....for her it was about saving and helping animals.
Just last month, when a viewer called me about a dog she had been
feeding for months who was abandoned in a canyon and starving
to death, Gina was the ONLY person who was willing to go out to
the canyon and bring this dog back to her home. The dog, by the
way, has been a wonderful, well-behaved foster dog, who appears
grateful to have a warm home where he can lay his head.
Any help in finding adopters or fosters would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Darlene White
