Opera Patrons Celebrate Start of 2011 Season at Rancho Valencia Resort
February 17th, 2011 some very special patrons of the San Diego Opera gathered for dinner at the Rancho Valencia Resort. That's the very sublimely posh Rancho Valencia Resort. Among the stellar group of support for the opera were Joan and Irwin Jacobs, Sarah B. Marsh-Rebelo and John Rebelo, Jennifer and Dr. Richard Greenfield, Esther Burnham and her nephew Seth, Debbie Turner and Conrad Prebys, Colette Royston (fresh from a ski trip), Sally and John Thornton, Sheila and Jeffrey Lipinsky, and Lee Clark and Jerry Pikolysky. Two more patrons came with 'dates.' Lynda Kerr was joined by her friend Lilly Fauci, Lynda's husband was away on business, and Iris Strauss came with her daughter Tamara Strauss. Husband Matt Strauss was also unable to get 'back in time.' Guests discussed everything from the recent Opera Gala, to Conrad Prebys's recent and very generous donation to the Salk by underwriting a chair in the department of vision research. Veuve Clicquot champagne was enjoyed as well as the following menu: Tray Passed Appetizers Smoked Salmon Crespella Spoon Boursin Cheese, Salmon Caviar Dill
Duo Starter Beet & Burrata, Candied Pistachio, Wild Cress, Sweet Picked Baby Onion & Oven roasted Sun Choke Bisque Arugula Pesto, Lemon Crème Fraiche
Entree Pan roasted Bone in Amish Veal Rib Eye Yukon Gold Potato Puree, Roasted Winter Vegetables, Spinach, Oregano Caper Jus
Dessert Apple Tarte Tatin Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, House Dried Apple Chip
Rombauer Carneros Chardonay Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
As the evening progressed, talk turned to the next opera, Rosenkavalier.....sure to be a resplendent experience.
