'Unforgettable' Charity Ball 2008
"The beautiful, traditional setting of the Hotel del Coronado and the ability to move through and enjoy all those amazing rooms really made the evening 'Unforgettable'." - Charity Ball Chairperson Phyllis Snyder
The 99th Charity Ball took place February 9th, 2008 at the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado. Rather known as the Grande Dame of San Diego Charity Balls, this annual event exudes history and elegance.
Charity Ball Chairperson Phyliss Snyder, Menu Chairman David Nelson and Betsy Boaz, and Leslie Dupree as Dinner Chairmen were joined by a formidable committee to make this year's fundraiser for Rady's Children's Hospital tops in glamour and money raising.

Over $400,000 in money raising to be exact. All to help keep Rady's Children's Hospital at the forefront for children in critical care need.
Among those supporting the cause generously were Phyllis and John Parrish, Dianne and Jim Bashor, Linda and Don Swortwood, Elisabeth and Dr. John Bergan, Carol and Dr. Jeffrey Chang, Marilyn and Kim Fletcher, Mari and Mike Fink, Teresa and Harry Hixson, Annie and Jerry Jessop, Barbara and Dr. Bill McColl, Virginia Monday and Chris Sheppard, Karon Luce, Nancy and Robert Kronemyer, Pam and Philip Palisoul, Kimberly and Cary Miller, Sally B. Thornton and John M. Thornton, Dixie and Ken Unruh, and Emma and Leo Zuckerman.
VIP guests gathered first for an intime cocktail reception with white glove tray passed hors d'oeuvres, champagne, and fancy cocktails.
Among the many fashionable standouts were Carol Chang in Donna Karan, Elisabeth Bergan in Chado Ralph Rucci, and Jane Fetter in a short Jordan design. That's a Jordan with hand painted animal theme of course!
Then it was on to dinner in the Crown and Coronet Rooms. White corn bisque with cornbread crunch and basil oil was paired with Orfila vineyards 2006 Chardonnay Bien Nacio. Ossa Bucco with butter poached crab, Yukon potato crème fraiche Romanesco was served as the entrée. It was paired with a L d Lyeth 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County. Dessert was a light and delicious Limoncello Charlotte with Burgundy berries. Executive Chef John Shelton, Executive Sous Chef Michael Catalano and Executive Pastry Chef Daphne Higa excelled as usual.
Guests continued the evening to their box seats for ballroom dancing.
Box seats have been handed down generation to generation. The most coveted one? David Copley's of course. And this reporter has fond memories of being David's guest years back, with the stellar company of Judith Harris and Dr. Robert Singer, Pam and Hal Fuson, Karin Winner, Boaz Mazor, and the legendary Bobby Short.
And that is the essence of the Charity Ball. A superb evening for a superb cause. Children.
