Center for Children Celebrates with 'Glee' "Our guests loved singing and dancing along with our children." - Event Co-Chair Doreen Schonbrun More Social Diary Event Coverage ** ....HOME
The Center for Children Gala raised funds with ‘Glee’ at the U.S. Grant Hotel May 12th, 2011.. That was a ‘Glee-ish’ show presented by some very talented children from the center. The evening got off to high notes with audience participation in a sing along encouraged by San Diego Center for Children’s Executive Director Rana Sampson. More contributing to the cause were Gala Co-Chairs Doreen Schonbrun and Kathleen Stoughton, Gala Honoree Co-Chairs Olivia and Peter Farrell, and Lisette and Michael Farrell, as well as the evening’s Honorees, Laurel and Donald McKahan. Guests enjoyed cocktails and silent auction bidding that included a number of must haves and must do's.
Event Co-Chair Doreen Schonbrun with her husband Dr. Myron Schonbrun and their favorite Service Dog / Canine Charity supporter, Kima Schwab- Johnston More among the mix there were Linda and Mel Katz, Karen and Don Cohn, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Colette and Ivor Royston, Deborah Szekely (she donated a trip to her Rancho La Puerta in Mexico), Clinton Walters, Judy and Jack White, Sally and John Thornton, Steve Redfearn, Paul Nestor, Chelsea and Nanci Piouffe, and Edward Mracek. Among the generous supporters that evening, longtime donor Darlene Shiley was unable to attend but sent in a big check to help the San Diego Center for Children. All in all a tremendous contribution to help the center’s mission to aid children and adolescents suffering with mental health issues, and re-direct them through creative programs such as music dance, towards a healthier future. The San Diego Center for Children is San Diego's oldest children's charity.... and quite successful at that with many wonderful programs including the music program headed up by the very popular Sundiata Kata. In fact a number of his students took to the stage and performed. It proved to be contagious fun as many audience members stood up and joined in. Co-Chair Doreen Schonbrun said this in summation. "We were thrilled with the success of our "Glee" event. Our guest loved singing and dancing along with our children and we triumphed financially. Our supporters made it possible to give the children the critical programs that they need. Our deepest thanks to all.
