San Diego Center For Children's 'Fashion Cornucopia'

"TREMENDOUS SYNERGISM AND EXTRAORDINARY ENTHUSIASM GENERATED FOR THE “ ♥ SAN DIEGO CENTER FOR CHILDREN’S ♥ ”  “FASHION CORNUCOPIA”  BY “STYLE GUY”, LEONARD SIMPSON, ENHANCED THE US GRANT HOTEL’S SUPERB CULINARY DELIGHTS!  “WOW!” AND, “YUM!”   HOW DO YOU $PELL $UCCE$$?

KUDOS FOR, AND CONGRATULATIONS TO, DOREEN SCHONBRUN AND MARY JOHNSON FOR THEIR FABULOUS FALL DÉCOR."

- HONORARY CHAIR SALLY B. THORNTON

Well dressed supporters came in big numbers to the U.S. Grant October 17th, 2008 to support the San Diego Center for Children's mission, 'Healing Hearts and Minds.'

Honorary Chair Sally B. Thornton was among the lovely mix of ladies. So were Chairs Doreen Schonbrun and Mary Johnson. They were joined by a tremendous Honorary Committee including Carol Karlovich, Kitty Kaufman, Betty Kornreich, Carol Laventhol, Pamela Palisoul, Rana Sampson, Hermeen Scharaga, Louarn Sorkin, Mary Walker, Betty Vale, Virginia Napierskie, Anne Newbury, Barbara Bloom, Audrey Geisel, Cristull Hasson and Valerie Cooper.

The day started off with mingling, cocktails for some, and a whole lot of silent auction shopping. Temptations included items from Ageless & Beautiful Spa, California Ballet, Legoland California Resort, Sea World, The Fish Market, the USS Midway, the Zoological Society of San Diego, San Diego Museum of Art, and a nifty shirt from La Martina that was swooped on by The Social Diary.....got to get that Christmas shopping done!

The fun continued with a very tasty lunch. Seasonal heirloom tomatoes with feta cheese, black olives and oregano dressing was followed by seared salmon with horseradish chive crust, lemon thyme polenta cake and market vegetables. Dessert was irresistible. A lemon souffle cake light as can be with a blueberry compote.

Children from the San Diego Center for Children sang, performed and won hearts. A room full of hearts.

And then it was time for the promised Fashion Cornucopia extravaganza. And a tasteful show it was. And that's not referring to some of the edible gourd accessories models wore. The fashions were wearable, tailored, and tastefully timeless. The show was produced flawlessly by Fashion Forward and KUSI's Style Guy, Leonard Simpson.

Some locals got to join in the modeling too. Kima walked in Jemima Dutra Designs with Mommie and Daddy, Dr. Myron Schonbrun walked the walk, and so did Vincent Andrunas, hat and all.

In sum, Chair Doreen Schonbrun had this to say. "A huge thank you goes out to all of my friends and the members of our community who supported the San Diego Center For Children luncheon and fashion show. The San Diego Center For Children is the oldest accredited nonprofit organization, serving the community for 121 years. The mission of the San Diego Center for Children is to promote the well-being of children, youth, families, and communities by providing an array of proven and effective mental health, educational, and social services. Every day, they work with children and adolescents who have been severely abused and neglected. The children suffer from behavioral, emotional and learning difficulties.  Eighty-two of the children are in residence at the center."

Hats off to San Diego Center for Children for their tremendous programs and care that put children on a positive and happy path.

The Buzz

Laughter is the best medicine.....

Dr. Myron Schonbrun had a great time on Halloween day. Not only did he go to Thornton Winery in costume as 'Joe the Plumber,' but he also saw his patients earlier that day in costume.

.............

Girls Gone Wild

Yes that was quite the birthday party at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club October 30th, 2008. The Walnut Room was filled with about 50 or so of birthday gal Mary Walker's friends. A little wine turned into a lot of dancing to the live entertainment. This fun shindig was hosted by Carol Karlovich who did a beautiful job!

Fabulous accessories that are big, big, big for MEN!

Hottest seller's in the men's department at Saks Fifth Avenue in Fashion Valley, the pocket square. Cool colors in silk that add a lot of flare to any suit or tuxedo.

Charitable Gifts Make Tremendous Gifts

A Great learning Experience for Kids Too!

There are a lot of beautiful animals in shelters who need support. No donation is too big or too small. You can always designate an animal of choice to support. Ideally they need a forever home.

Kima supported Boxers Roxy at The San Diego Humane Society and Cowboy last year. This year, Kima supported the San Diego Humane Society again this year.

Think Green for shopping

Supporting local, supports local jobs and it's greener in the end...less transportation costs and less emissions...

More Charitable Thoughts...

Give big and unclutter your life.... Salvation Army is great. They don't just resell, they train people and give them jobs and respect.

The Social Diary is very happy to support The Salvation Army!

Have a great, great week!
