Moores 'Bella Notte' Cancer Center Gala 2008

It was a 'Bella' and 'Stellar' Notte as the 27th Annual Celebrity Chefs Cook Gala for the Moores UCSD Cancer Center took place April 12th, 2008. The elegantly themed 'Bella Notte' event took place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina's Grand Ballroom.

But first it was a wine reception in the 'Cave' below the ballroom. Guests enjoyed a plethora of wine tastes and appetizers by some of the best chefs of this region and beyond. Among those contributing to the cause were Orion Ballet of Azul La Jolla, Jason Knibb of Nine-Ten La Jolla, Jeff Rossman of Terra Restaurant, Susan Sbicca of Sbicca's, Stephen Window of Roppongi Restaurant and Sushi Bar, and Jean Michel Diot of Tapenade Restaurant.

More chefs offering tantalizing cuisine by the bite were Thomas Broder of Broders Cucina Italiana of Minneapolis, Jesus Gonzalez of Mexico's Rancho La Puerta, Giuseppe Ciuffa of Giuseppe Fine Catering, Damaso Lee of Trattoria Acqua, and Brian Malarkey of Oceanaire. All appetizers were offered with select pairings of wine.

Wine from Chalk Hill Estate, Chappellet Winery, Domeain Serene Winery, The Henry Wine Group, Maison Drouhin, Ramey Wine Cellars, and Flowers Vineyard were among the selections poured.

Pretty Chairwoman Sue Kalish was joined by a host of who's who including Co-Chairs Joy and Dr. Fred Frye, Lee and Frank Goldberg, Sheri and Dr. Stuart Jamieson, Carol and Dr. Jeffrey Chang, Katy and Mike Dessent, Carla and Rudy Rehm, Mac and Tim Canty, Marsha Chandler, Christy Walton and her son Lukas Walton, Hermeen Scharaga, Susan and Craig McClellan, Debbie and Chris Neils, Vicky and Chris Eddy, and Pat and Bob Whalen.

UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox was there, along with Wanda Kaufman with Richard Levi, Renee and Duane Roth, Marilee and Stephen Warfield, Jeanne Jones and Don Breitenberg, Sheila and Jeffrey Lipinsky, and Sandy and Dr. Dennis Carson. Dennis is the Director of the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, Chugai Pharmaceutical Chair in Cancer, and Asscociate Dean for the UCSD Health Sciences.

Anne Otterson served as Honorary Chair for the event. Her son Eric Otterson attended the event.

For dinner, Chef Steve Black of the Sheraton served up a menu that included a roasted boneless duck leg with a white bean and porcini ragout.

Dancing followed to the ever popular Society Beat.

The evening net over $700,000 for the Moores UCSD Cancer Center's reseach programs.
