AIWF Hosts Michel Escoffier at the University Club
The American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) and the University Club Atop Symphony Towers rolled out the red carpet to welcome Michel Escoffier, the President of the prestigious Escoffier Foundation April 20th, 2010.
With a rather who's who of foodies on hand, and the superlative service and cuisine of the University Club plus a who's who of guest chefs, guests enjoyed Aliane Wines with suggested pairings. There was Domaine des Chambris to get things going, a Chateau des Gravieres 2008 Bordeaux Blanc paired with oysters and shrimp, Aliane Chardonnay 2006 paired with lobster and scallops Aliane Beaujolais-Village 2007 Vielles Vignes paired with veal and cheeses, and Chateau Saint Ahon 2002 paired with the lamb and beef.

Amidst the reception was a hushed reverence. Special guest Michel Escoffier after all is the great-grandson of the very auguste Auguste Escoffier, the noted founder of haute cuisine.
Michel magically charmed guests. He even fixed this reporter an appetizer plate! Merci! Yes he is very charming, but it's the wealth and history of fine dining that he and AIWF represent that made this night so impressive.
A little history from San Diego AIWF Chair Vickie Mogilner. "It was a magical evening that included a presentation on the Musee Escoffier del l’Art Culinaire in France, the birthplace of Auguste Escoffier, the “the king of chefs and the chef of kings”
