RITZ 2011 Moonlight Shangri-La
It was a beautiful night June 18th, 2011 as the San Diego Zoo's RITZ (that's Rendez Vous In The Zoo) gala held its 28th annual gala with this year's theme, Moonlight Shangri-La. The new Southeast Asia Tiger Habitat at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (formerly the San Diego Wild Animal Park) was the beneficiary of the event, and with Audrey Geisel / The Dr. Seuss Fund / San Diego Foundation matching every dollar 2 for 1 up to $1 million.... you know the final tally will be big. Audrey Geisel in her Tiger Gown by Jordan ** Carol Chang in a vibrant Jordan gown Among the guests enjoying appetizers, listening to Joan Embery's insight into animals, auction item shopping, enjoying dinner by the Sheraton's Chef Steven Black, and dancing to the Wayne Foster Orchestra were event co-chairs Clarice Perkins and Debbie Turner, Honorary Chair Audrey Geisel, Chris and Craig Andrews, Karen Fox and Harvey Ruben, Jennifer and Richard Greenfield, Dianne and Jim Bashor, Emma and Leo Zuckerman, Marsha and Bill Chandler, Patty and Rick Elkus, Jane and Tom Fetter, Colette and Ivor Royston, Noni and Drew Senyei, and Julie and Dale Yahnke. Fashionable notes seen were Jennifer Greenfield in a ravishing red Oscar de la Renta gown, Erica Olmstead in a daring back number.... and she wore it well, Sheryl White in a Roland Mouret, Sheryl's 'twin' Karen Cohn in Donna Karan, Emma Zuckerman in Roberto Cavalli, Iris Strauss accented in new Italian jewels for being a 'good nurse' to husband Matt, and then there was a very pretty sprinkling of Jordan gowns. That's Jordan who designs and hand paints one-of-a-kind designs. Jeanne Jones wore a new one, and so did Carol Chang, Carol's was a very pretty with floral motif, Judy Wheatley was in a peacock themed Jordan, Jordan in Jordan of course and looking splendid, Jane Fetter in a cheetah design coat, and moi, in a backless blue Jordan with the very first Tiger purse by Jordan. The purse is so adorable that Audrey Geisel didn't want one like it, but rather she wanted that one. Audrey, never to be outdone was in a resplendent Tiger coat and dress by Jordan. The eyes on her tiger dress illuminate with nightfall.....now that's a first too! Guests happily danced the night away to the amusement of the park animals.
